Recent Real Estate, Construction & Design Industry News
Despite the economy, firms with local ties have been busy. Below is a small sampling of some recent industry activity:
  • Murfreesboro-based REIT, National Health Investors, recently spent nearly $30 million to buy three assisted living facilities in Minnesota and an acute psychiatric hospital in California. NHI leased all the properties back to their tenants.
  • Last month, Nashville-based BE&K Building Group, a subsidiary of KBR in Houston, was awarded a $94 million contract for their preconstruction and construction services of a new hospital to be built in the Atlanta area. The nine-story tower is a replacement for the current Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
  • Gresham, Smith & Partners became the first firm in the country to fulfill the EDAC (Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification) Advocate Firm commitment of having at least 25 percent of its healthcare design team EDAC accredited. The national program, developed by the Center for Health Design, was created as a way to educate and assess individuals on their understanding of how to base healthcare design decisions on credible research evidence and project evaluation results.
  • In mid-March, Brasfield and Gorrie announced it had been awarded the contract for construction of the Oktibbeha County Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Miss.
