Brown, the Hugh J. Morgan Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology, has chaired the Department of Medicine with its more than 800 faculty members and over $160 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health, since 2010. Her own NIH-funded research program focuses on optimizing drugs to reduce diabetes and heart disease. Brown serves as a presidential appointee on the National Heart Lung and Blood Advisory Council. She is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
