Dr. Ming Wang, Harvard & MIT (MD); PhD (laser physics), founder of Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration, Nashville, TN, recently announced that a Chinese New Year Foundation Benefit Concert will be held at Steinway Piano Gallery on Chinese New Year Day, Feb 5, Tues. 2019 at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to support the sight foundation, a 501c(3) non-profit charity which to date has helped patients from over 40 states in the U.S. and 55 countries, with all sight restoration surgeries performed free-of-charge.
Rudy Kalis is the evening's master of ceremonies.
"It will be the Year of the Pig", Wang said, who is also the director of Wang Vision 3D Cataract & LASIK Center. "We are so excited to be able to combine the celebration of Chinese New Year, the most important holiday for nearly 3 billion people on this planet, with the noble cause of helping bring the blind out of darkness into light. Our foundation's focus is to help blind orphaned children from around the world", Wang explained.
"Now I play the Chinese violin the Erhu to express my appreciation to America, which has given me the freedom and opportunity to get an education to become a doctor", Wang said. As an immigrant, Wang said that he has worked hard to pay back, to help his adopted country America. He invented the world's first amniotic membrane contact lens, to help restore sight in the blind, and has established the non-profit sight foundation, to help indigent patients who otherwise would never be able to afford the surgeries.
On Tues 2/5 at 6pm, the concert will feature an exciting collection of Chinese music, from four talented musicians: Dr. Ming Wang (Chinese violin er-hu), Carlos Enrique (classical guitar), Deidre Emerson (cello) and Dr. David Tao (piano). The stories of some of the foundation's patients will also be presented, and all proceeds from the sale of Dr. Wang's autobiography "From Darkness to Sight" will all be donated to the sight foundation.
There will be food and drinks. Free admission. The event will be held at Steinway Piano Gallery, 4285 Sidco Dr., Nashville, TN, 37204, RSVP: Kristin Hoehne, kgodin@steinwaynashville.com, 615-373-5901. The event will start at 6pm.
