Metro Nashville
Nashville reported 21,060 confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, an increase of 132 cases in the last 24 hours. There are currently 4,488 active cases in Nashville, 16,380 individuals who have recovered and 186 active hospitalizations. With 192 deaths, the city has a case fatality rate of 0.91%.
In Davidson County, 169,566 tests have been administered with a positive rate of 12.4% (down from 12.5% yesterday but still up from 10.7% on July 1 and 9.4% on June 1). Of note, the 7-day average for positive tests is 12.9%, down from 14.3% last Friday.
On the trend lines, the transmission rate is in the green. With a goal for transmission to be less than 1.0, the city has seen a rate of 0.99 for the last several days. The 14-day case rate remains in the yellow and is currently stable. Hospital floor and ICU beds also remain in the yellow. Both have a goal of 20% availability or better. Currently, hospital bed available capacity sits at 17% (a slight improvement from yesterday) and ICU bed capacity at 14% (up from 12% yesterday). Masks are required in Nashville, and a number of other surrounding counties have also begun instituting mandatory mask regulations. Additionally, public health officials continue to ask (beg) residents to be vigilant in maintaining social distancing measures, as well as to go out as little as possible, wash hands frequently and stay home if ill. Metro police are authorized to issue civil citations to those who fail to comply with the mask mandate unless the individual has a specific exemption.
Tennessee State
While Nashville metrics have held steady or slightly improved this week, the state has seen increasing cases as COVID-19 continues to spread in rural areas. In fact, the state had its second deadliest day and one of its largest one-day jumps in caseloads.
As of this afternoon, the Tennessee Department of Health reported 105,959 confirmed cases, up 3,088 since yesterday. Tennessee has recorded 1,060 deaths (an increase of 27 since yesterday ... July 23rd saw 37 deaths in a single day). There have been 4,661 hospitalizations across Tennessee (up 89 in 24 hours) and 66,357 have recovered (an increase of 2,123 since yesterday). A total of 1,512,224 Tennesseans have been tested for COVID-19 (an increase of 32,555 since yesterday).
Despite rising case numbers and actual numbers of deaths, statewide death rates have continued to drop, falling to 1.00 on Friday afternoon. That figure is down from a death rate of 1.3 on July 1.
