Ascension Saint Thomas Board of Directors is delighted to welcome Chris McCarthy to its Mission and Public Policy Committee. Her diverse backgrounds, dedication to community service, and accomplishments will enrich the committee's efforts to advocate for the well-being of our community.

Chris McCarthy, a highly accomplished financial leader, held key roles in multiple manufacturing firms before retiring as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 2000 from Werthan Packaging, Inc.  Her retirement was short-lived as she shifted her focus to community service, joining Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity (NAHFH) in 2002. As Chief Executive Officer, she worked with staff, board, and volunteers to grow the agency asset value from $2.2 million to $25 million in 8.5 years. Under her guidance, 4 neighborhoods, 486 homes and over 1,500 family members achieved their dream of home ownership. Beyond her impactful time at NAHFH, in 2011 Chris co-founded The New Beginnings Center, a nonprofit that has empowered over 5,000 low-income women as of 2023.  At TNBC the preventative wellness programs build better health and sustainable outcomes from the inside out and focus on reversing diseases related to obesity. Chris is currently active in various nonprofit boards organizations, foundations, and served in leadership capacities for the Geodis Foundation, Geodis Compassion Fund, and as President of an Anonymous $50 Million Foundation.

"Chris represents the spirit of service and leadership that Ascension Saint Thomas values," said Fahad Tahir, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas. "Her background in financial leadership and community service, speaks volumes about her commitment to positive change. I believe her experience will enhance our efforts to advocate for the well-being of our community. We look forward to shaping a future that reflects the values of compassion and inclusivity to those we serve."

"We are excited to have Chris join our Mission and Public Policy committee,” said Tony Heard, chair, Ascension Saint Thomas Board of Directors. “Chris’s extensive experience in leadership and dedication to creating positive change in our community makes her a valuable addition to our mission."

Chris will bring valuable experience to Ascension Saint Thomas' Mission and Public Policy Committee. The committee plays a vital role in upholding Ascension Saint Thomas' mission and values through strategic planning, monitoring mission integration, understanding policy factors impacting community needs and fostering spiritual foundations. Chris will actively contribute to the oversight of public policy considerations, community care, Catholic identity, workplace spirituality, and ethical considerations.
