Crime Doesn’t Pay

On June 22, the U.S. Justice Department announced 301 individuals across the country, including more than 60 physicians, were being charged with healthcare fraud worth more than $900 million. The recent action was the largest takedown, both in terms of the number of defendants charged and amount of money involved, in the history of the Medicare Fraud Strike Force. Florida holds the distinction for the largest number of cases, and Middle Tennessee had one physician charged for his alleged role in an illegal kickback scheme.
