President Barack Obama has nominated Scott Hiebert, PhD, professor of Biochemistry and associate professor of Medicine, to serve as a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board (NCAB). Hiebert is the Hortense B. Ingram Professor of Cancer Research and is associate director of Basic Research and of Shared Resources at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC). He is among six people nominated to the federal board, which advises the director of the National Cancer Institute.

Tom Starling, EdD, CEO of Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee (MHAMT), was voted chair-elect of the national Mental Health America board of directors. In two years he will chair the board of directors, becoming the first-ever sitting affiliate director to chair the national organization. Starling has been leading health-related nonprofits in Middle Tennessee since 2000. Locally, Matt Self has been elected chair of MHAMT. An active community volunteer, he is a managing director and wealth management advisor with Northwestern Mutual in Green Hills.

Last month, the Tennessee Medical Association accepted a Profiles of Excellence Award from the American Association of Medical Society Executives at the AAMSE Annual Conference in Baltimore.

Nashville resident Mary Mirabelli was installed as chair of the Healthcare Financial Management Association 2016-17 Board of Directors. Mirabelli, vice president of Global Healthcare Practice at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, was previously a senior executive at HCA.

LBMC Technology Solutions, LLC, a member of the LBMC Family of Companies, recently announced the firm has been named to Accounting Today's 2016 VAR 100 list. This is the sixth consecutive year the firm has received this recognition.
