Blumstein ranks among America's most prominent scholars on health law and policy. A member of the Vanderbilt law faculty since 1970, he served as former Governor Phil Bredesen's counsel on TennCare reform. Blumstein has argued three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and participated in many others. Blumstein also has served as the principal investigator on a number of grants focused on managed care, hospital management, and medical malpractice. In addition to his work with the law school, he has a tenured appointment to Vanderbilt Medical School and is the director of the Vanderbilt Health Policy Center. He is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine.
