Nashville-based Cumberland Emerging Technologies (CET) - a joint initiative between Cumberland Pharmaceuticals, Vanderbilt University, LaunchTN, and China's Gloria Pharmaceuticals - recently announced a collaborative agreement with the technology transfer organization for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Foundation for Research Development to develop new biomedical products. Under the agreement, CET will evaluate MUSC discoveries, license intellectual property rights to promising technologies, and partner with MUSC research scientists to advance product development toward commercialization.

Onlife Health, the Nashville-based wellness subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and Cambia Health Solutions, was acquired by Florida-based GuideWell Mutual Holding Corp. at the end of February. Onlife will operate as a subsidiary of GuideWell Connect, with current president and CEO Mark McConnell and the management team remaining in place.

In early February, HCA Healthcare announced the completed purchase of Mission Health, a six-hospital system in Asheville and western North Carolina, for approximately $1.5 billion.

According to a recent filing with the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development, CVS Caremark, the pharmacy benefits arm of CVS Health, will close down its Nashville call center by early May. The closure impacts approximately 250 employees, some of whom will be allowed to work from home.

EvidenceCare, a Nashville-based innovator in clinical decision support technology, recently announced its partnership with MCG Health, part of the Hearst Health network, to embed MCG's industry-leading admission indications into the EvidenceCare clinical decision support tool. With the new partnership arrangement, admission indications from the MCG care guidelines will be integrated with EvidenceCare's point-of-care protocols to support clinicians and their hospitals with improving the quality of patient care.
