Thawley brings 15+ years of experience leading high-growth technology companies

HST Pathways, a leader in cloud-based software for ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs), today announced it has appointed David Thawley as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective August 2021.

After 17 years building the company and more than 40 years developing technology solutions for the healthcare industry, Founder and former CEO Tom Hui is stepping back from day-to-day operations to assume the role of Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, where he will offer strategic guidance and continued support for the ASC industry.

"Building HST Pathways from the ground up into the gold standard in practice management solutions that it is today has, and will continue to be, the honor of my life," said Hui. "We've earned the coveted leadership position in the market and laid the foundation for continued rapid growth thanks to our deep ASC industry knowledge, hard work, and the ongoing dedication of our innovative team. I am proud of our ability to execute on transformational market opportunities that have been made possible with the backing of our investors. As I look ahead to HST Pathways' bright future, now is the right time to transition to a new CEO who has a track record of moving companies forward on an accelerated growth path. David is the right person to take up the mantle for this exciting stage in evolution for HST Pathways and the ASC industry overall."

The appointment follows HST Pathways' efforts to integrate the best end-to-end ASC software solutions seamlessly under one platform with the mergers of price transparency tool Clariti Health, patient engagement engine SimpleAdmit, and case coordination platform Casetabs.

"HST Pathways is the most trusted partner to the ASC industry, with innovative, cloud-based SaaS offerings and a sterling reputation of transforming operations, fueling growth and driving a better overall patient experience," said Thawley. "Tom is an entrepreneurial leader who envisioned an innovative healthcare IT solution--and built the team and end-to-end to platform to execute that vision. I'm exceptionally grateful to join HST Pathways and look forward to working with the team to build on that foundation and lead the company into its next phase of growth."

Thawley brings to HST Pathways an impressive track record leading the growth of category-defining software companies. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President and General Manager at fleet management software and video telematics company Lytx, where he led the Mid-Market and Small-Market business units as well as Lytx Compliance Services. In that role, he scaled the team and implemented a data-driven sales, marketing, and support process to accelerate systematic, predictable, and efficient growth, helping the company achieve record revenues in 2020.

An experienced CEO, Thawley led the merger of two midmarket automotive enthusiast hardware businesses, to create calibration software company, Derive Systems. The combined strength and synergies of this merger powered the combined company's entrance into the B2B fleet technology space. He also co-founded TestDrive, a provider of custom software tools for automotive dealerships and held leadership roles at eBay and Bain & Company.

Thawley previously served as Captain for the U.S. Air Force. He received an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, an M.S. from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, and a B.S. from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

"We are excited to have seasoned tech executive and multi-time CEO, David Thawley, joining the HST Pathways family, while also having the continued benefit of Tom's profound ASC industry history and world-class reputation," said Darren Abrahamson, Managing Director at Bain Capital Tech Opportunities. "We invested in HST Pathways to take the preeminent ASC Practice Management solution and build out an end-to-end platform with best-in-class technologies. With the additions of Casetabs, SimpleAdmit, and Clariti Health, we are working together cohesively to achieve our ambitious vision. David is the perfect CEO to build on the strong foundation that Tom and the team have built to bring this vision to life."
