Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About! Awards, Honors, Recognitions
For the second year in a row, Community Health Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CYH) Chairman, President and CEO Wayne T. Smith has been rated the number one CEO in the healthcare facilities sector by Institutional Investor magazine. More than 900 analysts, portfolio managers and other investment professionals from over 425 institutions participated in the survey. Voters were asked to name the best CEO in each of the sectors in which they invest. Smith joined CHS in 1997 when the company’s annual revenues were $740 million from a portfolio of just 37 hospitals. In 2007, CHS acquired Triad Hospitals, Inc., becoming the country’s largest publicly traded hospital operator. The companies posted combined revenues of more than $10 billion in 2006. CHS now operates more than 126 hospitals in 28 states and one in Ireland.
The State of Tennessee has made significant progress in efforts to reduce deaths and illness caused by tobacco use, according to the American Lung Association’s “State of Tobacco Control 2007” report. Tennessee was given a grade of “B” … a dramatic improvement over the “F” received in 2006. The report credits the state’s dedicated efforts to enact the Non-Smokers Protection Act and increase cigarette taxes for the improved grades on this national report card.
Local attorney Ashby Q. Burks, of the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, has been named an “Outstanding Healthcare Transaction Lawyer” by Nightingale's Healthcare News. Mr. Burks is among 12 attorneys from across the country who were named to the list, which is published annually by Nightingale's.
United Neighborhood Health Services has been awarded a $14,535 grant by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to support the Taking Charge Program, which provides parenting education and counseling to over 150 pregnant and parenting youth attending Metro Nashville Public Schools.
