Let's Give Them Something to Talk About

Pam Davis, clinical manager for the Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity, was among the first nurses in Middle Tennessee to complete the certification program by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) for bariatric nurses to facilitate the delivery of quality patient care and to recognize the knowledge and skills required for this specialty area of nursing. Earlier this year, Davis also earned the Award of Service Excellence award from the Case Management Society of America.

Brent R. Moody, MD, skin cancer specialist and Mohs Micrographic surgeon, has been appointed to the American Academy of Dermatology’s Coding and Reimbursement Task Force. The Coding and Reimbursement Task Force monitors government and private sector reimbursement systems and acts as the resource for the education of physicians and insurance carriers about coding and classification systems that affect dermatology. Dr. Moody practices at the Skin Cancer & Surgery Center, PLC in Nashville and Spring Hill.

The Mental Health Cooperative of Nashville
was recently honored by Eli Lilly and Company as a recipient of the “2007 Lilly Reintegration Award for Clinical Medicine.” The award recognizes exceptional contributions and achievements in mental health rehabilitation and recovery. Pam Womack, CEO of the Mental Health Cooperative said, “I am so proud of our clinical team whose sole focus is always on giving consumers the tools they need to be successful in the community, outside of institutions and hospitals. Our psychiatric clinic services are innovative, based on science and always evolving to meet the unique needs of our population. This award honors MHC’s dedication to those objectives.”

The Thomson 100 Top Hospitals®: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success study has included Saint Thomas Hospital on its list of the nation’s 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals. This marks the sixth time Saint Thomas Hospital has received this recognition, based on excellence in care, efficiency in operations and sustainability of cardiovascular performance. Saint Thomas is the only hospital in Nashville recognized on this list and one of only four hospitals in Tennessee receiving this honor.

Seven Tennessee health plans were recognized in the U.S. News & World Report/NCQA “America’s Best Health Plan 2007” rankings for Medicaid plans. PHP TennCare ranked 29th in the nation with a score of 81.5 (out of 100). Volunteer State Health Plan (a wholly-owned subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee) ranked 36th (BlueCare) with a score of 81.2 and 43rd (TennCare Select) with a score of 79.1. Others recognized included: UnitedHealthcarePlan of the River Valley (#48, 78.5), Memphis Managed Care Corporation (#49, 78.4), Unison Health Plan of Tennessee (#56, 76.3), and UAHC Health Plan of Tennessee (#57, 76.2). The rankings were based on consumer surveys and success in preventing and treating illness compared with average health plan.

Nashville’s Downs Electrical Constructors, Inc. and Gould Turner Group recently won a “Construction Awards of Excellence” for their work on Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in Texas. The national recognition was bestowed by Associated Builders and Contractors, which represents more than 24,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms across the United States.
