Letter from the Publisher : Happy New Year!
Letter from the Publisher : Happy New Year!

Pam Mark Hall

This time of year naturally lends itself to pausing to reflect on the past and envision the future. Accepting the challenge to become the publisher of Nashville Medical News in 2007 was certainly a professional highlight for me. While I brought a heavy publication background to the job at hand, I’ve also had much to learn about the expansive … and internationally renowned … “local” healthcare industry.

Building on that growing knowledge base has led to exciting plans for the paper, which you’ll see roll out over the coming months. We are very pleased to announce our partnership with Vanderbilt Health Services. Beginning this month, Vanderbilt will deliver a regular feature called “Best Practices –– Evidence Based Standards of Care.” This monthly report will highlight the best physician practices and best practice management tools for the clinical application and business administration of healthcare. These informative pieces are designed to be useful to providers, practice managers and other healthcare administrators.

Also beginning with this issue, we unveil a new look for our popular Physician Spotlight feature. The featured doctors cover a broad range of specialties and passions … both on the job and off. If you have a colleague or know of someone who would be interesting to profile, we encourage you to visit the Web site –– www.nashvillemedicalnews.com –– and go to “My Medical News,” where you’ll see a “Nominations” link that will be used for this and other honors throughout the year.

Speaking of the Web site, it’s our goal to make the online paper more interactive. We truly want to know what you think. Use the “Reader Feedback” link under “My Medical News” to comment on articles or suggest future topics of interest you’d like to see the paper cover.

Any time we initiate a change, we do so with a deliberate eye toward our mission, which remains constant … to deliver timely, relevant information that accomplishes three objectives:

  • To support area physicians and other providers in their practice of medicine,
  • To improve the business of healthcare for private practices, hospitals, clinics and allied health providers, and
  • To highlight the movement of vibrant, Nashville-based healthcare companies which share our mission to support the practice of medicine and the business of healthcare.

Cindy Sanders, a longtime writer for the paper, has agreed to take on expanded editorial duties to help ensure we meet those goals. We encourage you to make sure Nashville Medical News is on your distribution list for press releases and announcements. Cindy also welcomes input on ideas to enhance our editorial content. She can most easily be reached at editor@nashvillemedicalnews.com.

No matter what new adventures 2008 brings, all of us affiliated with Nashville Medical News are keenly aware that none of it would be possible without our loyal readers and advertisers. Thank you, so much for your past support, and we look forward to continuing to serve you in the weeks, months and years ahead.
