The American Medical Association (AMA) will gather physician and medical student leaders from all corners of medicine at its annual meeting in Chicago to shape the health care policies of the nation's largest physician organization.
As the national organization whose reach and depth extends across all physicians, as well as policymakers, thought leaders and medical schools, the AMA is uniquely positioned to deliver results-focused policies that enable physicians to answer a national imperative to measurably improve the health of the nation. For 170 years the AMA has been unwavering in its commitment to using its unique position and knowledge to shape a healthier future for America.
The AMA's House of Delegates is the policy-making body at the center of American medicine, bringing together an inclusive group of physicians, medical students and residents representing every state and medical field. Delegates will work in a democratic process to create a national physician consensus on emerging issues in public health, science, ethics, business and government to continually provide safer, higher quality and more efficient care for patients and communities.
Issues to be addressed at the AMA Annual Meeting include:
- Reducing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages
- Combatting the growing abuse of synthetic drugs
- Expanding health care choices of U.S. veterans
- Improving drug affordability
- Requiring pharmaceutical ads to include drug prices
- Addressing skyrocketing prices for life-saving naloxone
- Fostering ethical physician conduct in the media
- Promoting immigration policies that support international medical graduates and students
- Addressing medical student mental health
- Preventing the diversion of 911 emergency services funding
