Last week, Mayor John Cooper slowed Nashville's reopening efforts after the new case trend line fell into the yellow category. The city will remain in the current phase two of the plan until the data improves to the point where Metro officials feel safe in expanding to phase three.

Metro Nashville

One week ago, on June 1, the city had 5,517 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Today, on June 8, those cases have risen to 6,228 - an increase of 72 in the last 24 hours and of more than 700 in the last seven days. There have been 72 deaths in Nashville, up from 63 at this time last week. There are currently 1,415 active cases and 4,741 individuals who have recovered.

There have been 65,755 tests administered in Davidson County with a positive rate of 9.5% (up from 9.4% on June 1 & 9.2% on May 29).

Health officials reminded everyone of the importance of continuing to wash hands regularly, maintain social distancing, wear masks in public and stay home when possible in order to maintain the green status of key metrics that will allow reopening of the economy to continue. The mayor has repeatedly said the city would reverse course or stop progress on the staged reopening plan if the key metrics warranted such a move. Having the new case trends dip into yellow was enough to halt progression to phase three.

Tennessee State

The state continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases, as well. As of Monday afternoon, the state had confirmed 26,944 cases, an increase of 563 since yesterday, and has recorded 421 deaths (up 3 in 24 hours). There are 1,948 hospitalizations across Tennessee (up 16 in 24 hours) and 17,563 recovered (an increase of 341 in 24 hours). A total of 512,763 Tennesseans have been tested for COVID-19 (an increase of 13,995 since yesterday).
