Cumberland Emerging Technologies, Inc. (CET) announced that Nashville-basedYaya Scientific, LLC has established operations at the CET Life Sciences Center. The Life Sciences Center, which is located in downtown Nashville, provides lab and office space, equipment and infrastructure to early-stage biomedical ventures.

Yaya Scientific develops innovative diagnostic, therapeutic and integrated hardware solutions for biomedical problems. Yaya Scientific's Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Justin Baba, specializes in generating applications of optical techniques for the sensing and diagnosis of various pathologies. The company's current efforts involve particular emphasis on the use of polarized light for noninvasive detection and identification of nerves during surgery. The NIH National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering has awarded Yaya Scientific a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I grant for the development of this novel technology.
