NASHVILLE – Stones River Group (SRG) President Mark Cate has announced that Sarah Tanksley, a seasoned state government and communications expert, will join the firm as principal effective June 1, 2022.

“We are thrilled to have Sarah join the SRG team,” Cate said. “From the TennCare III waiver to the state’s COVID-19 response, she has been at the center of multiple complex and transformational state initiatives over the last decade. Her strategic communications experience and expertise will be a tremendous asset to all our clients.”

Tanksley will lead strategic communications and advocacy initiatives for SRG clients, leveraging her background in media relations, state government, grassroots campaigns, and coalition development.

Most recently, Tanksley served as the director of communications and media relations at the Tennessee Department of Health. There, she led the development of the department’s internal and external COVID-19 communications strategies, served as the primary point of contact for local and national media outlets, and coordinated with the Governor’s office and other state agencies to advance the department’s messaging and goals. Prior to her role at the Department of Health, she served for nearly a decade in senior communications positions for Tennessee’s Division of TennCare.

“I am excited to join the SRG team,” Tanksley said. “I’ve watched their success from afar and have been impressed by the breadth of clients they serve and their reach across the state.”

Tanksley is a Middle Tennessee native and holds degrees from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and Tennessee State University (TSU). She lives in Murfreesboro with her husband and their twin daughters.
