Nashville — The Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA), the only professional association representing pharmacists in all practice areas across the state, today announced Dr. Jay Phipps, owner of four community pharmacy locations in McKenzie, Jackson, Huntingdon, and Waverly, Tennessee, as the organization’s 2022-2023 president.

Phipps has an extensive pharmacy background and more than 20 years’ experience in the profession. He earned his doctorate of pharmacy and completed a residency in drug information and pharmacotherapy at the University of Tennessee. Immediately after, Phipps opened City Drug Company in McKenzie, TN. as the managing partner and became its sole owner two years later. In 2004, he rebranded his independent pharmacy as Phipps Pharmacy, Inc., based in McKenzie, TN, where he has served as president and CEO for more than 17 years. He formerly served as a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) board of trustees and chair-elect of the TPA’s Society of Student Pharmacists (TSSP) and National President of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).

As TPA president, Phipps will help to provide a connection between leadership, members and society, and lead the TPA Board of Directors to achieve the strategic plan for the organization as it works to provide pharmacists and other members the tools to improve pharmacy practices that serve Tennessee communities.

“Jay has been an effective and influential TPA member since he joined the association,” said Anthony Pudlo, TPA’s executive director. “I am confident that our organization and the profession of pharmacy will benefit from his passion and leadership.”

The Tennessee Pharmacists Association has an extensive history of exceptional leadership,” Phipps said. “I am humbled to serve as its president and lead the association as we transform our profession.”
