The Foundation Fighting Blindness was established in 1971 by a passionate group of individuals driven to find treatments and cures for blinding retinal diseases that were affecting themselves or loved ones.
At the time, very little was known about these devastating retinal degenerative diseases that lead to blindness.
The Foundation’s goal was clear: To drive the research that would lead to preventions, treatments and vision restoration for the degenerative retinal diseases –including macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and Usher syndrome – that together affect more than 10 million Americans and millions more throughout the world.
Today, the Foundation is the world’s leading private source for inherited retinal disease research funding. During its now 50-year history, the Foundation has raised over $856 million in support of its effort to reverse blindness and restore vision.
Will you join me? I’m saving you a seat at the table to cure blindness.
If you knew that a dollar given today could help end blindness tomorrow, would you give?
Because of generous funders and the research supported by the Foundation, for the first time in human history vision loss is being treated and even cured.
We now know that beating many inherited retinal diseases is only a matter of time and money. It’s no longer an issue of the science.
The Foundation is at a very exciting juncture in the advancement of sight-saving and restoring therapies with more than 40 clinical trials underway.
Many of these studies were made possible by funding from the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
We request your support! When you give, you help us get one step closer to no more parents being told their children will become blind.
No more young adults being told they will go blind, and no more seniors being told their final years will be in the dark.
