Dewey elected to American College of Physicians board

Charlene Dewey, MD, MEd, MACP, professor of Medical Education and Administration and professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health, has been elected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internal medicine physicians, related subspecialists and medical students.

Her term began April 29 at the conclusion of ACP’s Annual Business Meeting.

Dewey became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1996. In 2019 she was elected to Mastership in the ACP, which recognizes outstanding and extraordinary career accomplishments.

Dewey earned her medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine and completed her residency in the social internal medicine program at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine’s Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York.

She joined the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine in 1993 and served as the assistant chief of the division of general internal medicine at Ben Taub General Hospital.

At Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dewey serves as assistant dean for educator development, chair of the Faculty Wellness Committee, director of the Center for Professional Health and director of the Educator Development Program.

She has been an active member of ACP and has spoken at multiple workshops and webinars. She received the ACP’s Certificate of Appreciation for Women in Medicine Month 2021 award. Over the years she has served on ACP’s Education Committee, physician well-being and professional satisfaction task force and physician well-being task force.
