Brentwood – Dr. Jason Goolsby, a family physician with Brownsville Family Medicine in Brownsville, Tenn., has been named 2024 President of the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians. He will preside over meetings of the Board of Directors and serve as the primary public representative for the organization, which serves more than 2,400 family physicians, residents and medical students across the state with advocacy, continuing medical education and other programs.

Originally from Crystal Springs, Mississippi, Dr. Goolsby earned his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and his medical degree from Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency training at the University of Tennessee family medicine residency program in Jackson. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has earned Fellow distinction from the American Academy of Family Physicians.

“Primary care, delivered by well-trained family physicians, is the clear solution to so many of the healthcare challenges facing Tennessee and the U.S.,” said Dr. Goolsby. “As an independent family physician who treats people living and working in rural parts of our state, I see first-hand, every day, the important role we play in our patients’ lives and the direct impact on cost of care and health outcomes. We are doing important work in our Academy to support family physicians and help lawmakers and the general public recognize the unique value that family doctors deliver in our complex healthcare system. I am honored that my peers have chosen me to help lead that effort for the next year.”

Family physicians deliver comprehensive, coordinated and continuing care for every member of the family and serve as patient advocates in the changing healthcare system. Because of their focus on prevention and primary care, family physicians can treat illnesses early and refer to appropriate subspecialists, when necessary. One out of every four patients in the U.S. is treated by family physicians.

Dr. Goolsby was officially installed on November 1 during TNAFP’s annual conference in Gatlinburg and will serve in the role until his term expires in October 2024.
