Last month, officials with Saint Thomas Heart announced a new location in Smyrna is now open and is seeing patients. Now serving Rutherford County with two sites, this newest location at 741 Presidents Place adds specialty services at the northern end of the county, allowing residents to access advanced cardiac care, including diagnostics, treatment, emergency care, specialty surgery and rehabilitation, without leaving the county.

M. Fayaz Malik, MD, cardiologist, and Peter Robertson, MD, cardiac electrophysiologist, are the primary cardiac physicians at the Smyrna location. Malik, who graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, is board-certified in internal medicine, internal medicine-cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular computed tomography. He is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation, and is a Fellow in Cardiovascular Medicine of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Robertson, who graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, completed residency and internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and did his fellowship in cardiovascular disease, as well as clinical cardiac electrophysiology, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
