The city's status of key metrics continues to show 'less than satisfactory' for transmission rate and 14-day new case trend, and Davidson County remains under Mayor John Cooper's Safer at Home order through May 8 at this time. On Tuesday, Nashville reported 3,346 confirmed cases, an increase of 24 cases in 24 hours. The number of deaths has risen to 33 in Davidson County. During the Tuesday briefing, it was reported 1,746 Nashvillians have recovered from COVID-19.

Tennessee State

State confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported as 13,938 today, an increase of 148 since yesterday. The number of deaths rose to 239 (increase of 13 since Tuesday) with 1,221 hospitalizations (up 65 in 24 hours) and 6,564 recovered (an increase of 208 since yesterday). Currently, the state's known hospitalization rate is 8.8% of confirmed cases. Deaths continue to total right about 1.7 percent of reported cases.

Davidson and Shelby counties lead state case counts, by far. There are also significant numbers of cases in the Nashville MSA with Sumner County reporting 671 cases, Rutherford reporting 655, Williamson reporting 436 and Wilson reporting 287. Nearby Trousdale County, where there was a large prison outbreak of COVID-19, is reporting 1,355 confirmed cases.

The economy continues to open in almost all counties. As more Tennesseans have reported back to work, TOSHA complaints have risen significantly as workers raise concerns over social distancing and proper workplace protections. Davidson County is the only one of the state's four largest counties to remain under a Safer at Home order. The Nashville order is set to expire on May 8. Memphis/Shelby County had an order in place through yesterday, but Mayor Jim Strickland announced the city is ready to move into phase 1 of their reopening plan based on data. Knoxville and Chattanooga, which both have city and county mayors, have begun reopening ... although city and county officials have disagreed on some of the timelines.
